Good morning, 5th district!
This week was a major milestone for me and my office: The House voted on and passed my First bill, the FinCEN Improvement Act of 2019. This bipartisan bill, which I co-sponsored with Congresswoman Jennifer Wexton, is a critical component of law enforcement, as FinCEN is charged with promoting national security by safeguarding our financial system.
It is FinCen’s mission to “cut the head off the snake” and combat illicit financing of terrorism, drug smuggling, human trafficking, and other criminal activities. This bill clearly incorporates crypto currencies and other emerging technologies into the FinCEN framework. We must ensure that our law enforcement agencies evolve to combat changing threats.
I also want to address a hearing we held yesterday on the National Security subcommittee. We discussed ways to update the current framework of our bank security and Anti Money Laundering laws. The important work we do on this subcommittee is essential to safeguard our financial system.
I will continue to keep you updated as we make progress in this work. Thank you
