Congressman Denver Riggleman Speaks in Support of the USMCA

December 12, 2019
Press Release

Washington, D.C. -Congressman Denver Riggleman (R-VA) gave a video address this morning following Speaker Nancy Pelosi's announcement on the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA).

"The USMCA will create upwards of 176,000 jobs, expand America's trading partnership with Mexico and Canada, and also help producers specifically in the 5th District," said Congressman Riggleman. "It will rebalance trade to support local dairy, cattle, and tobacco farmers and give them greater access to markets in Canada and Mexico, who are two of Virginia's largest trading partners, making up almost 25% of total exports. It could also help timber producers in my district compete against global competition and expand in the 5th District. The USMCA is a big win for the 5th District and the country."

Passing the USMCA will be a victory for the 5th District farmers, producers, and businesses. Almost a quarter of Virginia's exports go to Mexico and Canada: approximately $4.3 Billion worth per year.

Hello 5th District.

This morning it was announced that the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement will be brought to the floor for a vote. This is great news for the 5th, but it is long overdue. President Trump signed the USMCA over a year ago, and its been sitting on Nancy Pelosi’s desk ever since. Farmers and businesses in my District have been losing out on the enormous benefits of the USMCA every day while Nancy Pelosi focuses on impeachment.

It didn’t have to take this long, but you all know I’m ready to vote YES on the USMCA.

The USMCA will create upwards of 176,000 jobs, expand America’s trading partnership with Mexico and Canada, and also help producers specifically in the 5th District. It will rebalance trade to support local dairy, cattle, and tobacco farmers and give them greater access to markets in Canada and Mexico, who are 2 of Virginia’s largest trading partners, making up almost 25% of total exports. It could also help timber producers in my District compete against global competition and expand in the 5th District.

This is a big win for the 5th District and the country. Thank you, President Trump, for securing this deal.
