On the Hill with Denver Riggleman – Weekly Update – February 8, 2019

February 8, 2019

Yesterday was a momentous day for me and for the Fifth district- I introduced my first bills as a member of Congress.  I introduced 4 bills: H.R. 1037, H.R. 1038 and H.R. 1039 will address issues of money laundering and criminal financing of terrorism.  H.R. 1036 will improve access to safe and affordable housing for people in rural communities and promotes safe seller financing transactions.

It was important to me that I hit the ground running and start working on legislation as soon as possible.  The 5th district elected me to work for them and this is one of the first major steps I am taking to fulfill that goal.

On Tuesday night, President Trump addressed Congress to give his State of the Union address.  I was excited to hear his vision for the country.  He asked Congress to ratify the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement which is a step towards bringing manufacturing back to America.  This is not a one-step solution but making new trade deals can help revitalize Southside.  He spoke about immigration and his desire to secure our southern border.  I have been working with my colleagues in the House and hope we can come up with a bi-partisan solution that will keep our borders secure and reform our broken immigration system.
