More on Rural Broadband
Washington D.C. - Congressman Denver Riggleman applauded the Federal Communications Commission award of $27.1 million in rural broadband funding to five counties in southside Virginia. The grant will bring broadband internet to 11,903 people in Bedford, Brunswick, Charlotte, Lunenburg, and Mecklenburg counties. This funding comes as a part of last year’s Connect America Fund Phase II auction, which granted $1.488 billion to support connectivity around the country. Monday’s was the third round of funding from this auction.
WASHINGTON D.C. - Two amendments sponsored by Congressman Denver Riggleman passed the House unanimously this afternoon. Both amendments passed with bipartisan support and were cosponsored by Rep. David Trone (D-MD). The first would expand broadband access for rural communities that are underserved by private investment. The second would increase funding to combat the opioid epidemic in rural communities. Congressman Riggleman spoke on the House floor in support of both amendments today.
